What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently and provide information to website owners.
This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, how we use them on the Jaen website and applications, and how you can control them.
Types of Cookies We Use
🔐 Essential Cookies (Required)
These cookies are necessary for the website to function and cannot be disabled. They enable core functionality such as security, authentication, and accessibility.
Two more are set only when someone signed in opens the preview link our content editor uses to show a page before it is published — in practice, only our own editors:
📊 Audience measurement (no cookie)
We count visits to this site so we can see which pages are read — but we do it without storing anything on your device. There is no analytics cookie, nothing in local storage, and nothing to consent to.
🚫 Marketing and preference cookies: none
That is the whole list above. There is no third category, and no “optional” tier — this site sets no advertising cookie, no tracking pixel and no preference cookie, from us or from anybody else.
Managing Your Cookie Preferences
There is nothing here to opt out of, because there is nothing optional set in the first place. The first four cookies above are the ones that sign you in — reject them and you cannot sign in, which is the only thing rejecting them does. The other two only open a page preview for our editors; reject them and a preview shows the published page instead.
Through Your Browser
You can block or delete cookies at any time from your browser's own settings — you never need our permission or a banner to do it:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Preferences → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Cookies and website data
- Edge: Settings → Privacy, search, and services → Cookies and site permissions
⚠️ Note: Blocking these will sign you out and keep you signed out, and stop our editors' page previews. Nothing else on the site depends on them, and the Jaen Babymon app does not use cookies at all — blocking them here does not affect your baby monitor.
Third-Party Cookies
No third party sets a cookie on your device through this site. There is no advertising network, no analytics provider and no social embed here.
The outside services our own servers call — push-notification delivery, the purchase checks with Google Play and the map pictures from OpenStreetMap that the Privacy Policy describes — are reached from our servers, never from your browser, so none of them can set a cookie on your device. Error reporting would be one of them, if it were switched on:
Sentry (server-side error reporting)
Our backend includes Sentry's error-reporting library, but it is switched off for our live service, so no error is sent to Sentry. There is no browser SDK on this site either, so it sets nothing on your device.
Sentry Privacy Policy →No payment provider is involved either: this website takes no payments. Subscriptions are bought in the Jaen Android app through Google Play, under Google's own policies.
Local Storage & Similar Technologies
Local storage is not a cookie, but the law treats it the same way — so here is what is in it. None of it is sent anywhere, and only one item can be written before you sign in.
Before you sign in
One item, and only if you ask for it: jaen_desktop_view, written when you tap “Desktop site” on a phone so the choice survives the next page. It holds nothing but true or false, it identifies nobody, and it never leaves your browser. If you never tap it, nothing is stored.
Local Storage
Your account details (jaen_user) — your name, email and role, so the page can greet you without asking the server again — plus small interface choices such as whether you collapsed the sidebar and which product you last filtered by. It stays until you sign out or clear your browser data.
What is not here is the key that signs you in. That lives only in the token cookie above, marked httpOnly, which means the browser sends it to us but never hands it to a script running on the page.
Session Storage
Short-lived state for the tab you are in, cleared when you close it.
What is not here
No visitor ID, no device fingerprint, and no IndexedDB — this site uses none of them. Your baby's care log is never in your browser at all: it lives encrypted on your phone, in the app.
How to clear it
Signing out removes the sign-in keys. To remove everything, use your browser: Settings → Privacy → Clear browsing data → Cookies and site data.
Updates to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in technology or legal requirements. We will notify you of significant changes by:
- Updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page
- Displaying a prominent notice on our website
